A Slowing
The world, each of us has agreed upon, is much too small for the teeming masses barely hidden within the shadows of our disregard, and our powerful desire to forget. The unseen and unacknowledged grow faster than gray hairs, Internet speeds, or the newest hedge fund. The time has come at last for a slowing. It begins with a witnessing, a coming to terms with our mortality and our history. We must name the obvious, confront it in the air each day, laugh hysterically at every sign and screen pointing to us at the center of the universe. There is a vastness and an infinite abundance in the peaceful surrender of the need to be more than I already am.
