A Poem Can Help
A poem can help hold the tension of our lives, thus keeping us from collapsing beneath the burdens we feel. Yes a poem can help, especially on those mornings we regret waking, only to learn of some bad news. Yes a poem can also help, to make sense of the nonsensical, like the death of a loved one, or of a relationship suddenly ended. A poem pokes holes in the impenetrable, and reaches across time and space to give us a big hug as it praises our existence. Even an average poem will sweep into our house clearing away all the dust while it takes out the garbage. It does not matter whether we trust the poem. It simply waits without worry, a tiny portal opening into a much bigger universe.
