We Talked About Death
We talked about death
because death is something
we don’t talk about.
Death is never as far away
as we would like,
and is never welcome
except in sacred moments
like our last breath.
We talked about death
because death haunts me
through those gone before,
through war and tragedy,
through my own very personal
and imminent death.
We talked about death
because death is everywhere
and is louder,
than a thousand screaming angels
trying to teach us mystery
while only offering us humility.
