Water, Bread, Wine
“We will sell no wine before its time.”
The water says, “Drink me, take me in.” The bread says, “Me too, I want to become part of you.” I drink, I eat, again and again. I am so thirsty. I am so hungry. What is it my body desires? Those lingering spirits are most playful at dawn. They chide, “You are so serious. But of course, you become the water, the bread.” I protest, “I want to be wine!” As the spirits go out they call, “Not before it’s time!”
