Waking Up to the Dark
Off, way off in the distance, perhaps it was in a dream, I heard the call of presence beating like a drum. My soul heard it first and turned on the lights. In that 3 a.m. darkness I saw only the stars, but felt the stone antiquity off which came the echoes of a howling wolf. Immediately, immediately I knew. I knew to let go, to really let go. There was nothing to do, nothing I could do. I waited silently hoping the sun would soon rise, yet knowing the moon glow would have to be enough. Even clearer to me this morning is my awakening to the realization I must learn to live in darkness.
