To the Graduate
My life is a gift and a privilege. I am trying to use my time wisely, though I am uncertain I’ve done anything of great value and meaning. I have not come to tell you what your family, your teachers, and your trusted peers, who know you experientially, cannot say better. I simply want you to know your home is this very big world, which is but a speck in the vast Universe - a wondrous place of infinite possibility. To be at home on Earth there is nothing you will need beyond an open heart full of love, a desire to learn, and learn evermore. Do not trade your youth for dreams of retirement. Despite what you’ve been told, there is nothing so certain as uncertainty. One day you will look back and laugh at the gravity you felt in any single moment.
