Things I Don't Remember
How the hell did I get here?
This morning
my mind wanders
down corridors,
through catacombs,
unable to find
a quiet resting place.
I’m struggling to recall
the words I’ve just read.
Only the phrase,
we are all house-sitting,
lingers in my head.
Even though I know
my life is brief,
I counsel myself
to be patient,
especially on days
when I’m lost
and distracted.
