The Winds

...with all their flapping wisdom.

The song of the south wind
sounds like the voice of a devilish child
taunting me to come out and play.

Yet I only allow myself to heed
the call of the steady north winds
pushing me hard and to the east.

Now I’ve taken down my sails;
I much prefer to stay put,
out of all the jostling currents.

Still, at night I feel the west wind
creeping through an open window
to remind me who I really am
and what is mine to do.
