The Fixers

It’s good to know at least one.

It’s an ordinary night
and here we’re gathered,
a bunch of misfits
middle-aged and older,
sitting around a table
in the windowless basement
of a downtown church.

Everyone wants to help,
and everyone is just a little bit
too helpful and too knowledgeable.
That’s how we came to be here,
this community of fixers.

What else is there to say?
It’s just an ordinary night
and the fixers are gathered
to do what we do.
