Still Water
Still water does not calm me,
for I fear the turbid pond
and the greasy puddle
with no sense of depth
and only a slow-moving life.
I like big rivers,
great lakes and the ocean.
Their kinetic energy moves me
with their swift currents,
above and below.
For rest I go to the desert,
watch the light play with shadow,
let the heat smother me,
and like the other animals
wait for the night.
