Soul Food

Where do you go to be fed?

I must remember
not to ask so many questions.
The questions and answers
both mean very little
until a man or woman
can no longer remember
all of their yesterdays,
and thus can let go
their absolute certainties
about tomorrow.

Like flags I’ve seen
flapping in the desert,
our answers are threadbare
until, with nowhere left to climb,
we fall back to our ground.

I like when a weary traveler
seeks me out to ask,
Where do you go to be fed?
