Shoulder Surgery
A tear in my shoulder, and maybe a tear in my eye, some regret too, or perhaps more of a lament for those bygone days of youth when I floated through the air on waxen wings, all my aches and pains temporary and easily attributable; my strength once assured in that mythical space of physical becoming. Is this world truly a single groan - one continuous act of giving birth? If so, I needn’t worry about the bone spurs, about the price of surgery, about a long recovery, or asking others for help. I rather like the idea of surrender. Where I cannot let go surely God can.
