Rise Cautiously

Is it live or is it Memorex?

Terrible dreams
of torture
wake me.
In them I see
images of awful pain.

I will them to disappear,
then fall into a restless sleep
during which my legs
and my back are aching.

Mercifully
morning comes.
I rise cautiously,
falling heavily
onto my swollen feet.

Strong black tea
clears away the cobwebs.
I pick up my tablet,
scan the headlines,
and begin to realize
dreams do come true.
