Search tips

Search by title, first line, poem text, book, or type — results appear as you type. Look inside the poems for any word or line, or wrap a phrase in "quotes" to find it exactly. Use the chips and the book menu to narrow things down.

Obviously

When you hear the word obviously,
resist the temptation
to slap the mouth
which uttered it in great sarcasm,
along with a certainty
ignorant of its unknowing.

Take a deep breath,
draw from that great reservoir of patience
put there by the mystics.
Those to whom the world is obvious
have yet to take that first step
on their journey towards death.

There is nothing obvious
in this world of infinite mutability.
The miracle that is you and me,
the sun and the moon,
the mountain and the valley,
the raindrop and the river,
are nothing more than a divine agreement
limited by space, time,
and most importantly perception.

Weep for whomever this world is obvious.
They clearly went to school for the wrong reasons.
If an education is worth anything at all,
it’s because it makes it clear
you are obviously not
at the center of this Universe.
