Numb
Don’t worry everything’s just fine.
It kinda feels like cheating to sit and write a poem right after visiting a place where the spirits can roam free; a space where breath and time cease to be of any concern. But now I’m walking the streets in the company of troubled people, forgetting I am one of them. I hear a man saying, I’m just trying to change how it is I’m feeling. I want to be numb. When I leave the city for a week, a day, an hour, or just one minute, upon returning I, too, want to go numb. Presence isn’t about climbing a mountain to watch the eagles soar. It’s about going somewhere I don’t ever want to go, and keeping company with those who disturb me, while doing what’s mine to do in the mud of living poetry.
