Now I Know Better

I no longer believe
what the old men told me
when I was a younger man.

Sure, some of it
went down a little too easily,
and I can’t blame them
for believing everything they were told.

But now I know better,
because like them,
I have joined the struggle
against the domination of capital,
to become master of my own life.

No man or woman can be freer
than the trees or the river,
than the birds or the clouds.

Struggling for primacy,
within a prison,
only gives man dominion
over a tiny world of violence.

Older men must teach the younger
to make peace with death,
so they will know life never struggles
under the conditions
of God’s creative love.
