New Day

Feeling hungry, thirsty, tired, then awake,
watching the sun move across the sky,
hearing the songs of the birds carried on the breeze,
while the sweet smell of decaying leaves brings me home.

What a gift it is to be alive!
I say:
What a gift it is to be alive!
I dance but do not even know it.
Every cell in my body vibrates to the hum of the universe
as it sends out the loving message we call creativity
in a mystical Morse code.

I want to sing and to praise life.
I want to thank God for my precious, tiny life.
I want to let go of my hurt and pain,
letting the river carry them away.

This is my song,
written for a new day.
