She says to me, “The campaign never ends.” Then I repeat to myself, “Never ends… Never ends…” At this moment I cannot imagine two more frightening words. Why would God gift us our lives, and then condemn us all to an unchanging immortality? How reassuring it is to realize all that I label good or bad, or to which I am indifferent, will not last beyond my own inability to recognize my finite incarnation within this limitless universe.
