Like a Rock

...but not quite so firm...

I’m beginning to wonder
whether I’ve become a stone.

I often fear the world
right outside of these walls
where I live and work.

And there are many days
when I’d rather be indoors,
though I can never resist
my fearless little dog
urging me to venture out.

Still I feel heavy,
and like a great rock,
resistant to being moved
by all the commotion
surrounding me.

I now hear chants coming
from distant monasteries
and the swirling wind whistling
through empty hermitages...

Aren’t you also witnessing
the great forces now gathering
to move the unmovable?
