Let Me Be Blurry
Even attempting the focus demanded by my schooling is too much, just too much, for these middling years. I can’t discern any truth with my old glasses, nor find any peace in my life too fragile to hold any more great expectations. I must now sit on a boat dangling my feet in black water. I must stand at the cliff edge risking high winds or an avalanche. It’s nearly impossible for me to discover the subtler rhythms of nature, while I’m still living in this city built to resist the world out there. Please let me be blurry for a while. Don’t ask me to think too hard, or to sharpen my tongue with words and busy my fingers with action.
