Knock, Knock
A poem for the tree spirits...
I knock on wood to summon the kindly spirits who once lived outdoors in the towering trunks of deeply rooted trees. I knock again, this time for the attention of all the unseen spirits residing within the blind spots of my finite human world. I knock yet again, to let them know I am born again, and to hear their music, a silent symphony for my soul. Now all this knocking has become my beating heart, moving in steady rhythm with the serene contentment of our natural world. My knocking finally stops as I fall deeply asleep, and that thin veil between those sylvan spirits and me disappears.
