Into the Darkness
I open the door just a crack
so the dog can go out.
Beyond I see only darkness.
I don’t know what he sees.
A door opened to the darkness
is an ominous invitation,
unless and until,
you dare go through it.
The ample darkness is spacious
with room enough for everyone.
It knows things about us
which it will gladly share,
speaking in our own voice.
Like my brave little dog
we all go into the darkness,
traveling throughout the night
until we emerge in the daylight.
