Immortality

What’s the point?

The immortals must be bored.
They’ve got nothing much to do,
even though they have plenty of time
and can do anything they want.

I’ve always wondered
whether immortals really exist
or if I might just be consumed
by my own mortality.

Others assure me I’ve lived before,
agreeing just prior to my birth
to forget everything I once knew
and to return in innocence.

Accepting my life will one day end
and uncertain whether I’ll be back,
I probably ought to get busy.
I have so much yet to learn.
