I Hear God
...especially when I listen.
I hear God upon waking at night, afraid and unable to sleep. I hear God telling me to get up and to greet each new day. I hear God when I open the door to take the dog out, when I sit by the lamp to read and write poetry, when I make breakfast, then sit down at my desk, when I do all the little things which define my day. I hear God telling me to play it again, this time noticing my feelings and the spirits all about me busily bearing witness to the particulars of this day. I hear God urging me to accept my humanity and my need to be held, and my need to be gazed upon. Then I hear God reminding me to allow myself to be loved.
