Home of the Prey

I’m one of George Carlin’s
partially educated people.
And like Louis Prima,
I read a little
but not enough to hurt me none.**

You won’t find me
searching a stack of books,
or looking for answers
in the gleaming halls
of modern academia.
And I won’t be jumping
out of any airplanes,
hoping to find God in the clouds
or in the rush of falling to Earth.

You gotta believe me
when I tell you I’ve discovered
more than one truth,
and that you can absolutely trust
everyone and anyone
who says,
“I don’t know.”

The fun house mirror
that is our social media
reflects all of our illusions,
and then some.

The magic we are seeking
makes us all prey.
