Groaning and Growing

At first an hour
seems like an eternity.
But now that hour is gone
and only the shadows have moved.
This is how the Universe grows,
first an explosion,
then seemingly nothing at all.

Once there was nothing.
Then came a spark,
and much, much later
a woman groaned
and I was born.

Awareness is our gift.
We see creativity
all around us,
and are offered a place
within the mystery.

Slow and steady,
fast and furious,
the Universe groans and grows.
It asks for nothing,
but it takes everything
I am willing to give.
