Exposed
A poem for a pandemic.
Into every lifetime
an icy wind will blow
down from the mountaintop,
sweep across the open water,
and leave you standing naked,
so that the birds, bees and trees,
and all nearby will take notice,
as they turn to each other
declaring triumphantly,
We knew it all along!
Just maybe,
this will be enough
for you and me
to finally realize
how fragile we are.
As we dress again,
let us consider each item
we will wear:
Is it necessary?
What does it conceal?
Has my own nakedness
revealed this world to me anew?
