Everything Belongs
What was it
your mother said to you
making you smile and laugh?
Was it her big eyes?
Was it her funny nose?
Or was it the way she poked
your little Buddha-belly?
That was the day
you learned something
you can learn no other way.
So now
when you hear birds singing,
or see a rainbow over falling water,
or bump into a stranger on the street,
you will smile full of gratitude
for the love which taught you
everything belongs.
