Deliver Us to Normalcy

Deliver us to normalcy,
we pray again and again,
day after day.

So is this not our task -
to normalize everything?

Let us take the good and the bad.
Let us accept happiness and anger.
Let us recognize greed and generosity,
narcissism and humility,
mania and equanimity.
Let us see the glacier melting
and feel a shiver.
Let us laugh at our own stupidity
and not scapegoat our neighbors.
Let us struggle to love,
and then struggle some more
to see our reflections in those we hate.
Let us grow in wisdom and patience
so we may embrace this world
for which we’ve been delivered,
to create through God’s love.
