Come into the Light

...and show us your soul.

I see men and women
wandering a barren landscape,
searching desperately for a flower,
a blade of grass, water, anything
to let them know they are alive.

Why do they shrug
and give up their searching?
Is it because they can find
no way onto their knees?

Grab a shovel and get to work.
Let’s uncover a way into
the darkness we’ve been avoiding.
Let’s dig our own graves
and lie down in them,
allowing the damp earth
to show us who we really are.
Let us look up at the sky,
as we accept the invitation
to be born yet again.

Now rise!
Tell us the stories
told to you by the darkness.
Come into the light
and show us your soul.
