Breath
Easy come, so hard to let go.
If you’ve ever had
your breath knocked out,
you remember the silence
of being in that vacuum
between exhale and inhale,
feeling a great terror
breath might never return.
When breath finally did return,
relief came in huge gulps of air
and a flash flood of emotion,
from the salty tears of relief
to a painful new understanding:
passage between dimensions
may be quite difficult.
