Yesterday, a tiny little girl, sang unabashed for a locker room full of men while her father dressed himself and then dressed her. I became enchanted, as her reserves of joy filled the room. Soon, all the old warriors, unable to join her in song, fell deathly quiet. I mused to the man on my left, “We all were once like her.” He smiled knowingly, and she sang on while we dressed silently, trying to remember the songs we’d sing before the wars.
