Be Gentle with Yourself
It is God who tells me to be gentle with myself, then gives me these years so that I may trust this wisdom. Though I have become more patient, though I have discovered a depth of love unimagined, some tough questions remain. Everything in front of me this morning was someone else’s intuition first, and has now become my reality - that chair, those window blinds, this clamshell computer. It’s not hard for me to imagine my ancestors seeking answers in the rocks, amidst the branches, seeing them painted all over the landscape. The tales of my toenails are ancient. They grow so far from my head, and yet they too have a purpose which I may never appreciate. How are the windows not the eyes of my house, and the doorway not the opening of my mouth? How long would it take me to fashion an eyelash, or an edible spider who lives beneath the sea? I don’t have any answers, especially for the toughest questions. Yet I feel much better knowing that with the asking, comes the infinite possibility I know as God.
