Autumn
The sepia season.
Old photos awaken memories,
yet the truth of everything I now see
comes first through color,
then becomes more vivid
through smell,
like the sweet aroma
of decaying leaves.
I like to remember autumn
with leaves blowing in the wind,
but more often those leaves
simply sit wet and lifeless
beneath their naked tree.
