At the Temple

Singing dirges in the dark...

This morning is a labyrinth
of all the things I must do,
and of random, noisy thoughts
somehow interconnected.

This is the tangled thread
which helps me to sew
the patches of my life
into a colorful quilt
I call coherency.

So I go into the temple of my mind
where lives a terrifying demon.
But he only sits there watching
as my thoughts come and go.

I pause to ask him,
“Why don’t you frighten them away?”
To which he replies,
“There is no need.”
