All Goes Away

...

There’s nothing profound
I can think of to say,
other than it’s true
all will one day go away.

This place,
those people,
that church and steeple,
the rock over there,
my favorite easy chair,
you and me,
him, her, them, we
will all someday
go away.

Even things said
to last forever
will eventually succumb
to time and the weather.

Maybe you like
this status quo,
but I truly thought
you’d like to know.

I heartily suggest
you go out and play
before the time
this all goes away.
