Across Forever

Life just goes on and on.

Nothing is settled,
even in the calm.

There is no point
in laying to rest
everything still hanging
in the balance.

God dwells
in the precarious,
dangling on branches
just out of our reach.

When I say forever
the tree,
the river,
the rock,
the moon,
the sun,
the animals,
all shrug.

None of them seem to know
what I’m talking about.
