A Better Choice

Silence is the sound
of no more,
of quiet acceptance,
of complete resignation,
and of a peace so tranquil
it defies description.

I’m not your guy
if you want a poem
about the petals of a flower.
I don’t believe in movie magic
but I do find truth
in the sun and shade,
in the rain and mud.

So let’s have a real conversation
in which we tell real stories
with real consequences
and with unrehearsed punch lines
as stinging as they are funny.

You don’t need me
to show you beauty.
But we do need each other
for simple reassurance,
and to face the consequences
for all those times
when doing nothing
would’ve been the better choice.
